Ending intervention: a social worker's viewpoint
Learning Objectives
After considering this resource, you should be aware of the feelings that surround ending intervention and how can you manage the transition period.
At some point, an intervention with a service user will have to come to an end. In the following video, Amanda Batchelor, a child protection social worker, talks around the subject of ending intervention, including her feelings towards it and how you can plan for a positive ending.
Reflective Questions
- Why might interventions end? Consider each circumstance and how your feelings might differ in each scenario?
- How have you felt when ending a relationship with a service user? Do you think you managed the feelings well?
- In what ways can you work with stakeholders to reassure them ending intervention is necessary, and support their own feelings towards it?
- How has reflection helped you to learn from ending interventions? How has that helped in new cases?
