Self-assessing your professional development
Learning Objectives
After considering this resource, you should be able to self-assess your practice skills and create an action plan for your future development.
The end of your placement presents a useful opportunity to reflect on different practice activities and consider your level of skill and confidence in each area. Whether you are at the end of your course, or simply moving onto the next level, a self-assessment allows you to gain a better understanding of your learning as it stands and can identify areas for development in the future.
The following exercise asks you to 'self-assess' your practice skills on a scale of 1-10 and then to create an action plan for your future development.
- Consider each practice knowledge/skill you have included in the self-assessment and what you will do to develop in each area. Are there any common themes running throughout these fields?
- Look again at each practice knowledge/skill you have included in the self-assessment. How is your learning preparing you for employment as a social worker? Create a list of skills and knowledge that your ideal employer might look for.
- How can what you have learnt during your placement contribute to your ongoing professional development?
