Reflecting on your placement

Learning Objectives

This resource should stimulate you to consider alternative approaches to reflecting on placement experiences and their different merits.

Placements expose you to a wide range of experiences, which will provide a valuable learning opportunity. However, in order to optimise your learning, you will need to set aside time to process and critically evaluate your experiences.

In this video, students share advice on approaches they have adopted to reflect on what they have learnt on placement.

Reflective Questions

  1. How do you prefer to reflect on personal learning? Do you think you could deepen your response by trying another method?
  2. When do you reflect on experiences? Do you prefer to look back at the end of a day? Have you tried to reflect in practice?
  3. Is reflection better conducted alone? How often do you involve others (fellow colleagues, practice educators or service users) in your process of reflection?
